North Somerset Environment Company Partners with Thatchers Cider to Enhance Recycling Efforts
North Somerset Environment Company (NSEC) has announced a partnership with Thatchers Cider to provide comprehensive recycling and waste collections services. This collaboration underscores both organisations' commitment to reducing their environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices within the local community.
NSEC, known for delivering high-quality environmental services in North Somerset, offers tailored waste management solutions to local businesses. Their services include separate dry recycling collections, food waste and general waste collections, in addition to event cleansing and commercial driver training services, all designed to improve recycling rates and minimise environmental footprints. By partnering with NSEC, Thatchers Cider aims to enhance its waste management processes, ensuring that waste is treated as a valuable resource rather than disposed of.
Thatchers Cider has been working in partnership with nature for over 120 years. All their ciders are made using 100% green electricity, including power from the 3,500 solar panels on the roof of their farm. The new partnership with NSEC will build on their work to ensure nothing goes to waste; even the CO2 created during fermentation is captured and reused to create bubbles in cider and the apple pomace left over after pressing is used to create green energy or to feed local cattle. Additionally, Thatchers was the first in the sector to replace plastic rings with recyclable cardboard packs, demonstrating a proactive approach to reducing plastic waste, and, this year, they have planted 13,000 apple trees in their latest new orchard in North Somerset.
The partnership with NSEC aligns with Thatchers environmental policy, which emphasises investment in green energy initiatives and the promotion of recycling and reuse practices. By collaborating with a local environmental services provider, Thatchers not only enhances its sustainability efforts but also supports the local economy and community.
This collaboration is expected to yield significant environmental benefits, including increased recycling rates. It also exemplifies how local partnerships can drive sustainable practices, contributing to the broader goal of achieving a circular economy where waste is repurposed and valued as a reusable resource.
Both NSEC and Thatchers Cider are optimistic that their joint efforts will serve as a model for other businesses in the region, demonstrating the positive impact of local partnerships on environmental sustainability.
