    North Somerset Environment Company Ltd. (NSEC) works in partnership with North Somerset Council and delivers the following services: 

    • Collecting recycling and waste from over 100,000 homes and commercial businesses across North Somerset and the wider area.

    • Managing Household Waste Recycling Centres at Backwell, Portishead and Weston along with two Waste Transfer Stations in Weston. 

    • Maintaining 1,100km of North Somerset highways including surface repairs, winter maintenance, gully management, drainage and kerbing repairs, signage and line marking, and 24/7 emergency response services.

    • HGV Driver and mobile plant training, vehicle servicing and maintenance, event cleaning and other environmental and highway maintenance specialisms to commercial businesses.

    We are currently seeking an experienced business development professional, responsible for sales growth and account management for the business’ expanding portfolio of commercial services e.g. commercial waste collections.

    The role is based at our Weston-super-Mare office but involves field sales in North Somerset, and occasionally the South West. We are keen to develop an individual who will initially focus on direct commercial sales to kick-start growth prior to moving into this more strategic role focused on sales & marketing, account management and profitability.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, ensuring retention and growth.

    • Drive new business through proactive sales pipeline development and lead generation.

    • Negotiate service agreements and contracts, including annual pricing reviews.

    • Collaborate with operational teams to deliver contracts and meet internal SLAs.

    • Monitor market trends and provide insightful reports to support strategic decisions.

    The ideal candidate will have:  

    • Proven success in a direct sales environment, preferably from recycling & the waste industry.

    • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive prospective and existing customer relations that generate confidence, respect and trust.

    • Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills including IT literacy.

    • Digital and social media skills to exploit sales opportunities and general brand marketing.

    • Background in a waste or logistics environment.

    • Ability to build excellent business relations and internal networks and with key stakeholders.

    We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Commercial Vehicle Technician to be part of its commercial maintenance team, responsible for the safe and effective maintenance of our high profile, front-line fleet. The role is based at our Weston super Mare workshop facility.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Maintain and repair vehicles, plant and equipment to DVSA and manufacturer standards.

    • Carry out inspections, testing prep and complete service documentation.

    • Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults and arrange recovery or off-site support.

    • Promote safe working practices and ensure equipment is properly maintained.

    • Provide technical support and mentor apprentices.

    • Keep records accurate, the workshop organised and build good customer relationships.

    • Carry our preventative maintenance.

    • Perform necessary work to prepare vehicles for their MOT tests and ensure they comply with regulatory standards. 

    • Diagnostics and Repairs - Utilise advanced diagnostic equipment and techniques to identify and resolve complex faults in vehicle systems, including auto-electrics and other complex systems. 

    The ideal candidate will have:  

    • Apprenticeship trained inclusive of City & Guilds HGV parts 1,2,3 qualification or equivalent. 

    •  An LGV Class C / HGV Class 2 licence is desirable, but not essential. 

    • Ability to work independently both safely and competently in a physically demanding role. 

    • Proven experience of maintaining commercial vehicles to a high standard inclusive of servicing, repair and fault diagnosis. 

    • Excellent understanding of vehicle and body electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, particularly in the waste management sector.

    We are currently seeking an experienced Highway/Construction operate to join our highways division located at Sandford. You will be a part of a 2/3-person team to carry out a range of services including kerbing, hot & cold lay patching, erecting & dismantling fencing and signage. Also, to become a member of the Winter Maintenance on call team for the winter season.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Carrying out assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and on schedule, reporting any issues to the supervisor or chargehand.

    • Being available for emergency and winter standby as required by the business.

    • Traveling to various locations across the county to perform tarmac work, white works, gully repairs, and other duties as needed.

    • Operating a range of plant and equipment.

    • Conducting daily risk assessments, pre-site inspections, and vehicle checks.

    • Installing and maintaining signage, lighting, and safety barriers.

    • Taking responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of vehicles, plant, and equipment.

    • Working flexible shifts, including both day and night shifts.

    • Having the opportunity to upskill and train as a professional driver through our in-house Driver Training Academy.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • To hold a CSCS card

    • To hold a current UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points

    • To have experience in highways/construction industry

    • Willing to take on additional training

    • Flexible working approach

    • IT literate (using a tablet)

    We are currently seeking a Senior Team Leader to contribute to the overall aims of the company through the efficient and compliant supervision of the Commercial Vehicle Maintenance Workshop. The role is based at our Weston super Mare workshop facility.

    What you’ll be doing:

    · Supervise the workshop team, making sure staff are trained, supported, and working safely in line with company policies.

    · Oversee fleet servicing, repairs and diagnostics, ensuring all work meets legal, manufacturer and quality standards while keeping downtime to a minimum.

    · Promote a strong safety culture, investigate incidents, and ensure equipment is operated and maintained correctly.

    · Manage resources effectively through good planning, productivity, stock control and accurate record keeping.

    · Provide technical guidance and make sound decisions on repairs or replacements, balancing safety, cost and efficiency.

    · Build strong relationships with suppliers, contractors and customers, ensuring value for money and timely delivery of reports and actions.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    · HGV City & Guilds level 3 or equivalent.

    · Supervisory NVQ Level 3.

    · Ability to work independently both safely and competently in a physically demanding role.

    · Commercial Vehicle Technician (HGV) – 5+ years.

    · Knowledge and application of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation inc. COSHH.

    · Up to date knowledge of legislation in relation to vehicle maintenance and operator licencing.

Institute of Leadership and Management
