    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Must have a full UK Driving Licence

    • Must have a valid LGV Class C / HGV Class 2 Licence

    • Clean driving licence preferred

    • Ability to work in a full time physically demanding role

    • Working bank holidays or Saturdays following bank holidays

    An exciting opportunity has arisen at North Somerset Environment Company (NSEC) to lead our Highways team, based at Sandford, near Weston-super-Mare.

    Working as a member of the senior leadership team, you will have full accountability for the safe, efficient, and effective management of our Highways Cyclical and Reactive Maintenance Contract with North Somerset Council which commenced in April 2024. You’ll deliver on the annual Winter Maintenance Plan, cyclical services e.g. gully cleansing, and reactive maintenance such as pothole repairs and patching.

    In the last 12 months, NSEC have proven to provide these services at best value and to an exceptional quality standard. We’re now searching for a candidate who can sustain and enhance those standards but also develop the business area and its capacity for growth and commercialisation.

    We’d be interested to hear from candidates who have proven experience in managing highway maintenance or similar operations, especially with a service delivery management background.

    Requirements

    • Proven experience of managing highway maintenance operations

    • Qualified operator/technician with excellent working knowledge of Highways regulations

    • Motivated to deliver a strong zero-harm safety culture

    • Proven record of delivering lean, continuous improvement within a service environment

    • Excellent IT, analytical and financial skills backed with good presentational skills

    • Ability to negotiate, influence, and create strong client relationships.

    We are currently seeking an experienced Highway/Construction operate to join our highways division located at Sandford. You will be a part of a 2/3-person team to carry out a range of services including kerbing, hot & cold lay patching, erecting & dismantling fencing and signage. Also, to become a member of the Winter Maintenance on call team for the winter season.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Carrying out assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and on schedule, reporting any issues to the supervisor or chargehand.

    • Being available for emergency and winter standby as required by the business.

    • Traveling to various locations across the county to perform tarmac work, white works, gully repairs, and other duties as needed.

    • Operating a range of plant and equipment.

    • Conducting daily risk assessments, pre-site inspections, and vehicle checks.

    • Installing and maintaining signage, lighting, and safety barriers.

    • Taking responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of vehicles, plant, and equipment.

    • Working flexible shifts, including both day and night shifts.

    • Having the opportunity to upskill and train as a professional driver through our in-house Driver Training Academy.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • To hold either a CSCS card/NPORS/SSSTS or equivalent

    • To hold a current UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points

    • To have experience in highways/construction industry

    • Willing to take on additional training

For this role you will be operating one of our specialist vehicles at sites/areas collecting various waste streams from locations throughout North Somerset. And operating plant within the waste transfer station when required.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Completing daily vehicle and equipment checks.

    • Ensuring all paperwork is kept up to date and submitted daily in accordance with company policy.

    • Complying with all traffic laws and legislation.

    • Exceeding our customers’ expectations.

    • Operating plant within the transfer station.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Class C (Cat CE) with a minimum of 1 year's experience

    • Up to date DCPC.

    • Digital Tacho Card.

    • Forklift licence desirable.

    We are currently seeking an experienced Management Accountant to be part of the company’s leadership team, reporting directly to the Head of Finance. You will be responsible for preparing and delivering accurate monthly management accounts, supporting the finance team with some line management responsibility, partner with key stakeholders across departments to provide financial insights and help maintain operational efficiency and support business growth.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Prepare and deliver monthly management accounts, financial statements, variance analysis, and KPI reporting. Support budgeting, forecasting, and year-end processes.

    • Ensure legal and financial compliance, conduct audits, VAT submissions, and manage balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, and cashflow.

    • Drive finance process improvements, support ISO accreditation, and contribute to business continuity and continuous improvement initiatives.

    • Oversee payroll, support team training, development, and performance, including regular 1:1s and mentoring. Deputise for senior finance roles as required.

    • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, respond to senior leadership reporting needs, and carry out additional tasks as necessary.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Professional qualifications from a recognised accountancy body such as CIMA, ACCA or AAT or significant finance experience.

    • Experienced user of accounting software (specifically Xero) and advanced knowledge of excel and spreadsheet manipulation.

    • Proven ability to manage a team and collaborate across departments.

    We are currently seeking motivated, professional site operative for our HWRC site in Weston-super-Mare, Aisecome Way. You will be part of a small, dedicated team that is responsible for the smooth operation of the Household Waste and Recycling Centre.

    What you’ll be doing:

    ·      Meet and greeting of member of the public as they arrive on site.

    ·       Taking payments for DIY waste and vehicle permits.

    ·       Monitoring and direction of members of the public to correct recycling points.

    ·       Monitoring and direction of traffic on site.

    The ideal candidate will have:  

    ·       Full, clean driving licence.

    ·       You will be required to work a shift pattern, on a rota basis of 6 days on and 3 days off.
